Grant Funding Focus is a curated collection of federal, state, and private grant funding opportunities developed as a collaboration between BCBSNC, Inclusive Data, and Living Better Life. It is distributed monthly via email and is available to anyone for free. BCBS aims to enhance the capacity of the nonprofit sector to access resources and, with that, the opportunity to increase their impact on the health and well-being of communities across North Carolina.

Over the last three decades, NCF has awarded nearly half a billion dollars in funding to support movements, organizations, and individuals pursuing justice for people and the planet. NCF wants to learn from, work with, and support organizations that share their commitment to advancing racial, economic, and environmental justice (REEJ). NCF is now accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOI's) for Grant and Program Related Investment (PRI; loans/investments) partnerships year-round. Most grants range from about $50,000 – $250,000 and most PRIs will range from $250,000 to $750,000, typically to be repaid within three to seven years.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund aims to support institutions and researchers across the spectrum in expanding diversity and addressing broad issues of climate and health. One example is the Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grant Program. Between Fall 2023 and Summer 2026, BWF will dedicate $1 million to supporting small, early-stage grants of $2,500–$50,000 toward projects in this area. Specific interests are activities that build connections between basic/early biomedical scientific approaches and ecological, environmental, geological, geographic, and planetary-scale thinking, epidemiology and public health, demography, economics, and urban planning. Also of interest is work piloting new approaches or interactions aimed at reducing the impact of health-centered activities, such as developing more sustainable systems for healthcare, care delivery, and biomedical research. JustGive, which has raised over $600M for charities since 1999, launched Charity Bridge Fund as a nonpartisan initiative to mobilize new support and direct funds to urgent, real-time program needs. This initiative fills a critical gap by serving as a trusted hub for channeling aid to credible organizations that have lost vital support due to recent government cuts.

Region IV EPA Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) Grant for states and territories grantees is non-competitive and catered specifically to the states for work relating to each state’s post-consumer materials management and recycling plans. It has a partner grant which was for communities and focused on political subdivisions investing in recycling infrastructure.

EPA has created a Quality Assurance Toolkit to help organizations starting or growing a participatory/citizen science project. The Participatory Science Quality Assurance Toolkit features the QA Handbook and an accompanying video series, orientation guide, and two fact sheets. The Handbook and toolkit are a great tool for those starting out, or those looking to improve data quality documentation for participatory science projects. The Handbook includes: 1) a walkthrough of how to determine the level of documentation that fits your project’s needs 2) customizable templates and 3) a compendium of real-world participatory science QAPP examples.

They work closely with educators and community groups in central and eastern North Carolina, including Durham, Raleigh and Wilmington, raising awareness of environmental health issues and increasing environmental health literacy, and determining the environmental exposures faced by our partner communities in their everyday lives to collaborate on environmental health research and solve local problems. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry Social Vulnerability Index (CDC/ATSDR SVI or SVI) is a place-based index, database, and mapping application designed to identify and quantify communities experiencing social vulnerability. EPA’s Office of Grants announced new requirement that, as of March 4, 2024, all new grant applicants and recipients (organizations that have never received an EPA grant, or if they last received an EPA grant before October 1, 2014) must complete two online courses, the “EPA Grants Management Training for Applicants and Recipients” and the “How to Develop a Budget.” This requirement must be completed by new applicants and recipients prior to receiving grant funds.
